From its humble origins in 1897 with a population of 1,500, the City has grown to an estimated population of 440,000, ­ home to a world-class convention center, a dazzling aquarium and, of course, the historic Queen Mary. Over the last ten years, a $650-million renovation of the Long Beach waterfront has led to a whole new feeling in town, with trendy shops and restaurants lining classy Pine Street, ­ making it an "it" place on Friday nights.
