Leavenworth, Kansas
Situated on the outskirts of Kansas City, Leavenworth was the first city incorporated in Kansas, back in 1854. It played a key role in the settlement of the West, with meat packers, furniture makers, stove makers and others supplying provisions for settlers on their way across the country. In many ways most famous for its Fort Leavenworth - the oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi River - Leavenworth has attractions of its own.
